Values are the foundation of education, shaping not only what is taught but also how it is delivered. In the context of teacher education, instilling and practicing values is essential for developing educators who are not only skilled in pedagogy but also ethical, empathetic, and culturally aware.Why Value PracticeValue Education means value oriented education. By prioritizing values in teacher education, we nurture educators who are not just transmitters of knowledge but also agents of positive change, capable of inspiring their students to become responsible and compassionate individuals. From the following points one can understand the significance of Value practice in Education:%u2022 It touches everyone and every aspect of life.%u2022 Value Education creates harmony in all aspects of educational philosophy.%u2022 Value Education makes a pupil more dynamic and enlightened.%u2022 Value Education helps in resolving different types of social and ethical conflicts such as old beliefs and new beliefs, old values of life and new values.%u2022 Value Education will make them aware of the implications of these tensions and creates in them resistance of mind to fight these and lead a life of mental peace.Reasons for Value Erosion in Teacher EducationThere is a growing concern about the poor quality of teachers and the down hill trend in educational standards. The prevailing decay in the society and teachers failure to attain the right position can be attributed to a large extent to the teachers' colleges. This is due to following reasons:i. The management of colleges are often composed of people with no or low educational background. Often they are in the management only because of their political clout and financial contribution. How can such people make sensible and positive decisions for the betterment of education.ii. Many privately owned teacher institutions do not have adequate infrastructure and qualified teachers.iv. The salaries of the teachers are much less than the prescribed norms or are not paid regularly.v. The teacher education curriculum is not revised regularly.vi. The backbones of B.Ed. , i.e. practice teaching, internship, etc are not conducted properly.vii. Regularity and availability of teachers in teacher training colleges (government and government aided) during working hours has become a rare phenomenon. viii. Seats of all colleges are full but students are not visible in the Institutes as they are working and exempted from attending classes. ix. A ray of hope was generated after establishment of several government bodies for quality improvement in teacher education but it is gradually fading as no quality improvement is seen in teacher education.Strategies to Incultate Values among Students%u00e8 Encouragement of basic human values in the classroom.%u00e8 Clarity about values that are to the reinforced.%u00e8 Providing experiences and situations in which the students can consider and reflect about values and translate this reflection into action.
