Education should guide individuals to prepare for the challenges of society and make them productive citizens and good human beings. But overthe past decade orso, the quality of education at the school as well as college levelsis continuously deterioratingandhasreacheda frustratinglevel.Havingbeenassociatedinthefieldof educationinIndia andtheworldforover50years,Iamsaddenedbyit. Theunfortunatepartisthatthisishappeningunderthefullknowledgeoftheaffiliatingagencies.Attheschool level, there ismushrooming of dummy schoolswhere high feesis charged tomanipulate the attendance ofstudentstaking coaching classesso that they are able to take the CBSE exams.At the college level too, the students do not want toattend classes.Institutions are providing the option to studentsto not attend asthey have to competewith themushroomingprivateuniversitieswheregenerallyattendanceandresultsare'managed'.The greatest impact of this is on the future teachers who are also getting their education in teacher training institutions which do not require attendance and also offer heavy fee concession. The teachers are the builders of future of the country. If teacher training institutions themselves are involved in professionally unethical activities, what will be the future of our children and of our country?Ours was the first self-financing teacher education institution affiliated to C.C.S.U. in the year 2000. But frustrated by the deteriorating quality of teacher education, we, at Ram-Eesh have closed the B.Ed. programme. Ram-Eesh does not believe in compromising with the quality of education. We are trying our level best in our School, Pharmacy and Engineering colleges that we maintain the high quality of education, and foster in the students, intellectual, social and moral values so that they can be productive citizens and good human beings. We hope that the agencies and government will look into the deteriorating condition of education and take necessary steps to reinstate the level of education India was once known for.Dr. R.C.
